[00:06:58] Yesterday was pretty light.
[00:06:59] Yesterday, we talked about we were in Chapter 12,
[00:07:03] and basically it just went through Ephraim again,
[00:07:09] wondering why they weren't called in at the beginning of this battle that Jethah went into.
[00:07:18] And Jethah kind of just explained to him,
[00:07:20] look, it wasn't my battle to fight.
[00:07:23] I was enlisted as a captain to lead the people.
[00:07:28] And so it became a little bit of a squabble in between Ephraim and Jethah and his people.
[00:07:39] It went on to let us know that Jethah judged Israel when he died
[00:07:49] and the people that came behind him, the judges that came behind him.
[00:07:53] So as we move on in Chapter 13,
[00:08:01] someone well-known is about to enter the scene.
[00:08:05] And I know for those of us that has read God's Word before,
[00:08:10] we know pretty much some of the characters in God's Word
[00:08:14] or some of the people in God's Word.
[00:08:16] I wouldn't say characters because they were real live people.
[00:08:19] Let me scratch that.
[00:08:21] Thank you, Holy Spirit.
[00:08:25] But we know some of the people that come along in God's Word.
[00:08:30] So let's get on over to Chapter 13
[00:08:32] and let's see what's going on in the Book of Judges, Chapter 13.
[00:08:38] For those of you that are just starting to follow the show,
[00:08:41] we turn the cameras off for the reading of God's Word
[00:08:44] and then we turn them back on and we may or may not discuss.
[00:08:48] So, Chapter 13.
[00:08:49] And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord.
[00:08:53] And the Lord delivered them into the hands of the Philistines forty years.
[00:08:58] And there was a certain man of Zorah of the family of the Danites
[00:09:04] whose name was Manoah.
[00:09:07] Manoah and his wife was barren and bared not.
[00:09:12] And the angel of the Lord appeared unto the woman and said unto her,
[00:09:17] Behold now, thou art bearing and bearest not,
[00:09:22] but thou shalt conceive and bear a son.
[00:09:26] Now therefore, beware, I pray thee,
[00:09:30] and drink not wine nor strong drink,
[00:09:32] and eat not any unclean thing.
[00:09:35] For lo, thou shalt receive and bear a son,
[00:09:39] and no razor shall come on his head.
[00:09:42] For the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb.
[00:09:48] And he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistine.
[00:09:53] Then the woman came and told her husband, saying,
[00:09:56] A man of God came unto me,
[00:09:57] And his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God.
[00:10:03] Very terrible.
[00:10:05] But I asked him not once he was,
[00:10:09] neither told he me his name.
[00:10:12] But he said unto me,
[00:10:14] Behold, thou shalt conceive and bear a son,
[00:10:17] and now drink no wine nor strong drink,
[00:10:21] neither eat any unclean thing.
[00:10:23] For the child shall be a Nazarite to God
[00:10:25] from the womb to the day of his death.
[00:10:29] Then Manoah entreated the Lord and said,
[00:10:34] O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst sin
[00:10:38] come again unto us,
[00:10:39] and teach us what we shall do
[00:10:42] unto the child that shall be born.
[00:10:45] And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah,
[00:10:50] and the angel of God came again,
[00:10:53] and unto the woman as she sat in the field.
[00:10:58] But Manoah, her husband, was not with her.
[00:11:02] And the woman made haste and ran and showed her husband
[00:11:05] and said unto him,
[00:11:07] Behold, the man has appeared unto me
[00:11:09] that came unto me the other day.
[00:11:12] And Manoah arose and went after his wife
[00:11:16] and came to the man and said unto him,
[00:11:19] Art thou the man that speaketh unto the woman?
[00:11:23] And he said, I am.
[00:11:26] And Manoah said,
[00:11:28] Now let thy words come to pass.
[00:11:31] How shall we order the child?
[00:11:33] And how shall we do unto him?
[00:11:36] And the angel of the Lord said to Manoah,
[00:11:39] Of all that I said unto the woman,
[00:11:41] let her beware.
[00:11:43] She may not eat of anything
[00:11:45] that cometh of the vine.
[00:11:47] Neither let the drink wine,
[00:11:49] neither let her drink wine,
[00:11:51] or strong drink,
[00:11:53] nor eat any unclean thing.
[00:11:56] All that I commanded her,
[00:11:58] let her observe.
[00:12:01] So,
[00:12:02] And Amena
[00:12:04] said unto the angel of the Lord,
[00:12:06] I pray thee,
[00:12:07] let us detain thee
[00:12:09] until we shall have made ready
[00:12:11] a kid for thee.
[00:12:13] And the angel of the Lord said unto Manoah,
[00:12:16] Though thou detain me,
[00:12:18] I will not eat of the bread.
[00:12:20] And if thou will offer a burnt offering,
[00:12:23] thou must offer it unto the Lord.
[00:12:26] For Manoah knew
[00:12:27] not that he was an angel of the Lord.
[00:12:30] And Manoah said unto the angel of the Lord,
[00:12:33] What is thy name?
[00:12:35] That when thou sayest some,
[00:12:37] saying,
[00:12:38] Come to pass,
[00:12:40] may we do thou honor.
[00:12:42] And the angel of the Lord said unto him,
[00:12:45] Why askest thou
[00:12:46] after my name,
[00:12:47] seeing that it is secret?
[00:12:49] So Manoah took a kid
[00:12:52] with a meat offering
[00:12:53] and offered upon a rock unto the Lord.
[00:12:56] And the angel did wonderly sleep,
[00:12:59] and Manoah and his wife looked.
[00:13:02] For it came to pass,
[00:13:04] when the flame went up towards heaven
[00:13:05] from off the altar,
[00:13:07] that the angel of the Lord
[00:13:08] ascended in the flame of the altar.
[00:13:13] And Manoah and his wife looked on it
[00:13:15] and fell on their faces to the ground.
[00:13:18] But the angel of the Lord
[00:13:20] did no more appear to Manoah
[00:13:22] and to his wife.
[00:13:24] Then Manoah knew
[00:13:25] that he was an angel of the Lord.
[00:13:27] And Manoah said unto his wife,
[00:13:29] We shall surely die
[00:13:30] because we have seen God.
[00:13:33] But his wife said unto him,
[00:13:35] If the Lord were pleased to kill us,
[00:13:38] he would not have received
[00:13:39] a burnt offering
[00:13:40] and a meat offering in our hands.
[00:13:43] Neither would he have
[00:13:45] showed us all these things,
[00:13:47] nor would as at this time
[00:13:51] have told us such things as these.
[00:13:54] And the woman bared a son
[00:13:56] and called his name Samson.
[00:13:58] And the child grew
[00:14:00] and the Lord blessed him.
[00:14:01] And the spirit of the Lord
[00:14:03] began to move at times
[00:14:05] in the camp of Dan
[00:14:07] between Zorah and the Astals.
[00:14:10] And that was Judges chapter 13.
[00:14:16] There's pretty much
[00:14:17] not a whole lot
[00:14:19] that we can say
[00:14:20] about chapter 13
[00:14:23] other than
[00:14:26] the angel being presented
[00:14:29] to Manoah
[00:14:30] and
[00:14:33] the husband.
[00:14:35] And, you know,
[00:14:37] God's promises.
[00:14:39] Welcome.

[00:14:41] And God's promises
[00:14:43] of what he would not do,
[00:14:46] would and would not do.
[00:14:47] I would say this, though,
[00:14:49] as I was reading it,
[00:14:50] and I fell asleep last night
[00:14:52] with it in my ear,
[00:14:55] just meditating on it.
[00:14:57] And I always try to read
[00:14:59] God's word,
[00:15:00] whether it's in the Old Testament
[00:15:01] or in the New Testament,
[00:15:03] and see if I can take
[00:15:05] something away from it
[00:15:06] that I can apply to my life.
[00:15:08] And one thing that came
[00:15:10] on me
[00:15:11] in my meditation
[00:15:12] was the fact that
[00:15:14] obedience,
[00:15:15] being obedient,
[00:15:17] he kept saying
[00:15:17] over and over
[00:15:19] for her not to drink wine,
[00:15:21] for her not to drink
[00:15:22] strong drink.
[00:15:24] And for many of you
[00:15:25] know that
[00:15:26] that was my battle
[00:15:27] a few years ago.
[00:15:28] And glory be to God,
[00:15:30] I've never turned back
[00:15:31] to that.
[00:15:33] And he delivered me
[00:15:34] from that
[00:15:34] in three days.
[00:15:36] It's something about
[00:15:36] that three
[00:15:37] and that seven
[00:15:38] with God
[00:15:39] and just being obedient,
[00:15:41] being obedient
[00:15:42] to what he told me
[00:15:46] and how he
[00:15:48] gave it to me
[00:15:49] at the time
[00:15:49] that he gave it to me.
[00:15:51] And the same thing here.
[00:15:52] But I want to go back
[00:15:54] and I want to talk
[00:15:55] about again
[00:15:56] the Israelites.
[00:15:57] They did evil
[00:15:58] in the sight
[00:15:59] of the Lord.
[00:16:00] And God had to
[00:16:01] hand them over
[00:16:02] 40 years
[00:16:05] to the Philistines.
[00:16:08] I thought about that
[00:16:09] as well.
[00:16:10] That's something
[00:16:10] that we can apply
[00:16:11] to our life.
[00:16:12] Not just reading
[00:16:13] of the word
[00:16:14] but being a doer
[00:16:15] of the word.
[00:16:16] Why must God
[00:16:17] say something
[00:16:18] to us over and over?
[00:16:20] And I am not exempt.
[00:16:21] I find myself
[00:16:23] sometimes
[00:16:23] going back
[00:16:24] and doing
[00:16:25] a rewind
[00:16:27] and saying
[00:16:28] to myself
[00:16:29] or saying to God
[00:16:30] you know
[00:16:31] you told me
[00:16:32] not to go this right.
[00:16:34] You told me
[00:16:35] not to do this
[00:16:36] and I did it anyway.
[00:16:38] I went against
[00:16:39] the grain
[00:16:40] and sometimes
[00:16:41] when we go
[00:16:41] against the grain
[00:16:42] things work out
[00:16:44] not so well
[00:16:45] for us.
[00:16:46] We may think
[00:16:47] that it's working
[00:16:48] out in our favor
[00:16:49] but we don't know
[00:16:50] more
[00:16:51] than the Lord.
[00:16:53] We don't.
[00:16:55] So again
[00:16:56] here they are
[00:16:57] 40 years
[00:16:59] being subdued
[00:17:01] by the Philistines
[00:17:02] and here God
[00:17:03] goes again
[00:17:04] as he does
[00:17:06] us.
[00:17:06] he makes
[00:17:08] a way
[00:17:08] for us
[00:17:10] when we don't
[00:17:11] even know
[00:17:12] that he's working
[00:17:13] behind the scenes.
[00:17:14] It may not
[00:17:15] seem like it.
[00:17:16] I know I've had
[00:17:17] trials in my life
[00:17:18] where I say
[00:17:19] God where are you?
[00:17:23] Difficult times.
[00:17:24] It wasn't until
[00:17:25] I started
[00:17:27] to really
[00:17:28] embrace God
[00:17:29] and God's word
[00:17:30] that I realized
[00:17:31] he's always there
[00:17:33] when I need him.
[00:17:34] He's always there
[00:17:36] working behind
[00:17:36] the scenes
[00:17:38] and months later
[00:17:40] something will
[00:17:41] happen out of the
[00:17:41] blue and I'll
[00:17:43] realize that
[00:17:44] God was at work
[00:17:45] the entire time.
[00:17:49] The entire time.
[00:17:51] So I think
[00:17:52] that's the big
[00:17:53] takeaway here.
[00:17:54] Not only that
[00:17:55] but Samson
[00:17:56] is coming
[00:17:57] onto the scene
[00:17:58] and we all
[00:17:59] heard that story
[00:18:00] especially if you
[00:18:01] guys have been
[00:18:02] in the Bible.
[00:18:04] But one thing
[00:18:04] I would like to say
[00:18:05] is don't be
[00:18:06] discouraged
[00:18:06] about anything
[00:18:08] that's going on
[00:18:09] in your life
[00:18:09] and I know
[00:18:10] that's easier
[00:18:11] said than done.
[00:18:14] I'm constantly
[00:18:15] getting in my
[00:18:15] own way
[00:18:17] and I have
[00:18:18] to be reminded
[00:18:19] I have to
[00:18:19] remind myself
[00:18:20] all the time
[00:18:21] to get out
[00:18:23] of the way
[00:18:23] and let God
[00:18:24] be God
[00:18:25] in my life.
[00:18:28] And sometimes
[00:18:29] we can get that
[00:18:30] we can forget
[00:18:31] that going
[00:18:32] through life
[00:18:33] and all the
[00:18:35] things that we
[00:18:36] have come up
[00:18:36] against us
[00:18:37] on a daily
[00:18:38] basis.
[00:18:40] On a daily
[00:18:41] basis.
[00:18:42] So I thank you

[00:19:03] in the New
[00:19:03] Testament,
[00:19:05] even if it's
[00:19:06] something that
[00:19:07] if you're
[00:19:08] having a bad
[00:19:09] moment,
[00:19:10] if you're
[00:19:11] having a bad
[00:19:12] day,
[00:19:14] find something
[00:19:15] in Scripture
[00:19:15] that can lift
[00:19:17] you up and
[00:19:18] take God at
[00:19:19] his word because
[00:19:20] he will never
[00:19:21] leave you.
[00:19:22] We always
[00:19:23] leave him.
[00:19:25] So again,
[00:19:26] this was a
[00:19:26] short passage
[00:19:27] today,
[00:19:27] but as we
[00:19:28] mosey on over
[00:19:29] into Judges
[00:19:30] chapter 14,
[00:19:35] it's going to
[00:19:35] start getting
[00:19:36] a little bit
[00:19:37] more interesting
[00:19:38] for us.

[00:20:39] Testament.

[00:21:31] that Jesus
[00:21:31] left behind
[00:21:32] for us
[00:21:33] to do.
